Burns are physical injuries that are occurred when the human skin comes in contact with heat, radiation, electricity or certain chemicals. Burns are extremely dangerous and excruciatingly painful, even a minor burn can be extremely painful.

They can cause a severe damage to the skin and in some cases also to some internal organs of the body. They form permanent or temporary marks on the skin and involve the damage of the layers of skin.

Basically burns are caused by any hot object or a chemical. Usually the most common agent causing burns is the fire. Other agents are hot liquids, electricity and chemicals.

Burns are of four types and are classified according to the degree at which they destroy the human skin and their causes. The treatment of each type of burns is different from others.

Below are the different types of burns and their treatment:

See all 5 photos

A first degree burn.

First Degree Burns

The first degree burns are the minor burns which only damage the upper most layer of the skin, the epidermis. They produce pinkish to red color marks on the skin and their symptoms include a mild swelling, tenderness of skin and of course pain. They are caused by the brief contact of skin with steam, any hot liquid or flame.

Although the first degree burns are minor burns, they should be taken care of. They heal by themselves within a period of some days. As soon as the skin gets burned it should be put in cold water. It is better not to apply any ointment on these burns as they heal by themselves. But if they are a bit more serious and cause more swelling than a mild ointment can be applied.

Second degree burn.

Types Of Fire Extinguishers
Fire Extinguishers
A fire extinguisher is a special device used to put out small fires. This active fire protection device is not used, however to put out out-of-control fires, but is only used for the purpose of putting out not so severe fires.
Second Degree Burns

The second degree burns are more severe than the first degree burns and involve the damage of not only the epidermis of the skin but also the second layer of the skin known as the dermis.

They produce blisters and red marks on the skin. They cause scars and swelling of the skin and are very painful.

They are caused when the skin is exposed to hot liquids and flames. They require a proper treatment.

As soon as the skin is burnt it should be immediately treated with cold water then an ointment must be applied.

If the burns are serious then a doctor must be consulted. It is important to take these burns seriously and should not be exposed to water much.

A Third Degree Burn.

If left untreated they can become serious wounds causing a severe damage to the skin.

In most cases the burnt wounds get rotten from the inside and they may become site of serious fungal attack.

Therefore it is very important to treat these burns at the right time.

The third degree burns are the most dangerous type of burns.

Not only do they destroy the epidermis and the dermis but they completely destroy and damage the entire skin also reaching into the internal parts of the body. They leave the skin blackened or white. They destroy and deform the bones.

Some First Aid Tips
First Aid Tips
Anyone can suddenly and unexpectedly face a life-or-death situation that requires quick action. You could be with a loved one who has a heart attack … you might be babysitting a child who burns herself with hot water.

In most cases they are not even painful as they also destroy the pain receptors of the skin along with a lot of other things.

They leave behind permanent marks which can only be removed by plastic surgery.

These burns are caused flames or extremely hot liquids specifically hot boiling acids.

The person who gets injured must be immediately taken to a hospital because there is no such thing as first aid when it comes to the third degree burns.

Child Safety Tips
Child Safety Tips
Finally the search for your new home is now complete; you have found the perfect home for you and your family. But there are some pointer to follow if you are to keep you children safe.

A second Degree Chemical burn, caused by silver nitrate.

Chemical Burns

Chemical burns are the burns that are caused by certain chemicals. The most important agents causing the chemical burns are hot boiling acids.

Other agents involve some certain disinfectants and drain cleaners containing acids. They too require proper medication and attention.

Unlike burns caused by a flame, the burns that are caused by chemicals penetrate deep into the skin and can cause more serious wounds with blisters and rashes.

These wounds are deep and usually oral medications are also taken to avoid internal blisters.

Whatever the type maybe, burns are a very dangerous form of physical injuries, they are very painful and the wounds caused by burns take time to heal and are very different from other types of wounds.

We live in a world where everything is so uncertain. We could almost never sleep in peace while being reassured that we could wake up peacefully the following day. So much could befall within a matter of minutes to ruin our lifestyle and everything we ve built up.
Disasters happen more than we think with an increase in the number of natural disasters and terrorist attacks. no wonder emergency preparedness is being talked about more and more. However, people still know very little about emergency preparedness. This article aims to help you with your emergency preparedness efforts.

Preparing for emergencies is not a one-time affair. It is an ongoing process that should be reflected in your lifestyle and mindset. Being prepared will help you keep control of the situation when a disaster attacks. Maintaining control will then increase the likelihood of your survival. You can’t do much the moment a disastrous event like an earthquake or tornado occurs. Therefore, the preparation begins right now.

The first and the most important step for emergency preparedness is making or buying an emergency preparedness kit. An emergency preparedness kit is basically a disaster kit that contains all the necessary items that you will need for survival during disasters. According to researchers, it generally takes a maximum of 72 hours for help to arrive in case of extreme emergency conditions. Therefore, the disaster kit should contain the basic emergency items supply to last for 72 hours.

Once you have the emergency preparedness kit ready, the next step is to familiarize yourself with it. Go through each item in the kit and learn how to use them. Also, if you have older people or kids in your family, then add special items specific to them in your disaster kit.

Decide a place suitable to store emergency preparedness kit. The place selected should be easily approachable (keeping the emergency scenario in mind) and should be free from dirt, heat, and moisture. Every member in the family should be aware about the location of the disaster kit. You should also decide upon the person, who will carry the emergency preparedness kit in case evacuation is required.

These few steps are just the beginning towards emergency preparedness. Emergency preparedness is a vast topic that needs planning, training and education. However, these are the starting steps that will motivate you towards developing a mindset for emergency preparedness and kits.

Are you prepared to grow your own food? Preparedness seeds are also known as non-hybrid, open-pollinated, heirloom, non-gmo and survival seeds, and are a great addition to your survival gear. Some type of emergency garden or survival garden should be a part of your urban survival supplies in preparedness for a disaster. Preparedness seeds can also be used in your everyday garden too.

Preparedness seeds may be saved at harvest time and used to replant in next year’s garden. Survival seeds may also be stored for long periods (years), making them a valuable item for your own emergency garden or for barter/trade. The seeds should be dried to their optimum moisture content to lengthen their storage life. Storage conditions and packaging affect the viability of the seeds. By keeping seeds cold, you can greatly extend their life expectancy. More details for seed collection and seed saving should be researched for each individual plant.

Compare this to the modern hybrid seeds, which cannot be harvested and planted from year to year. If you try to save hybrid seeds and replant, they will not look the same as the original plant. In this way, the seed companies keep you dependent on them to buy seed every single year. Not so with preparedness seeds. With the non-hybrid survival seed varieties you make an initial investment/purchase, and as long as you save seed at harvest every year, you will be able to produce delicious fresh food for you family indefinitely.

There are many different garden types out there, which range from container gardens, raised bed gardens, traditional garden beds to farming. It really varies. This depends on available land, climate and soil conditions and how much time you have to grow your own food. Just start small and expand as you gain more experience. I live in the city and have enjoyed using container gardening. Container gardens are suitable for getting maximum production out of small spaces, and are a great part of your urban survival supplies. When choosing a location for your garden, find a place that has full sun and is well drained. If your soil is dense clay, just add compost and gradually improve the mixture for better conditions.

An emergency garden, survival garden or your everyday garden should have a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and grains for a healthy diet. Non-hybrid varieties include vegetable garden preparedness seeds, fruit preparedness seeds, salsa preparedness seeds, culinary herb preparedness seeds, medicinal herbs preparedness seeds and ancient grains preparedness seeds. Proper nutrition is greatly improved with more food groups, and saves money for your grocery and health care expenses. It also helps your sense of well-being to have more choices of foods to eat. You could get pretty tired of rice and beans, if that is all you have for chow.

Preparedness seeds are suitable for rural gardens, city gardens, urban survival supplies and everyday gardens. Non-hybrid, open-pollinated, heirloom, non-gmo survival seeds are a step towards self-reliant living for your survival gear.

Hurricane Katrina was declared a natural disaster. That was what it was deemed by the united States government agencies like FEMA and others. However, the natural disaster may not have been as destructive as the manmade disaster in how the entire situation was handled by the United States government.

When you bring up Hurrican Katrina these days, there is plenty of blame to go around. You have the entire state government of Louisiana as well as the city officials of New Orleans and its surrounding cities who could certainly shoulder some of the blame. The mayor of the Crescent City (New Orleans), Ray Nagin went on national TV in a televised press conference to alert the citizens of New Orleans that their city, their home, was in a “state of devastation.” Those were the words of the man who was the top political representative of the people within the city that was submerged in flooding waters. Oddly enough, it makes you ponder and wonder a bit when you think of how many residents of New Orleans never got a chance to see or hear that live broadcast as it was televised and plastered on CNN and other broadcast news stations and on the Internet. With your home flooded and your TV floating down the street as you hold on for dear life to the chimney of your water-damaged home, you may not be able to keep up the latest news updates of the “state of devastation” that was caused by Hurrican Katrina.

There is plenty of blame to go around when you look at the federal government of the United States. There is a Department of Interior. Someone serves as the Secretary of the Department of Interior. Does that include Louisiana? Is New Orleans and its surrounding parishes covered under the “Department of Interior?” I should hope so. Then, as many know, there are the Army Corps of Engineers. These are engineers who survey and analyze existing structures and make recommendations on how bridges, highways, and other structures are to be rebuilt or reinforced against natural disasters like earthquakes, fires and floods, even erosion. Could these engineers have foreseen this disaster in the making? I would imagine so. After all, these men serve the president of the United States. Certainly the President could have reviewed some report or strategic plan that revealed the limits and capacity of the area to handle a catastrophic storm such as Katrina.

Unfortunately, very little was done proactively regarding the Gulf region. Alabama, Louisiana and other neighboring states that surround the Gulf of Mexico suffered.
